COVID Retrospective: A Three Year Review

Have we learned the right lessons?

The past three years have provided us with interesting history, and valuable lessons. Here’s my story. In February of 2020, I was on one of the last cruises before the entire industry became land bound. News of a serious viral outbreak had just broken. Though the lockdowns had not yet begun, tensions were still high. While cruising around Barbados, passengers awaited test results for a cruise worker who had symptoms of the dreaded Corona Virus. As it turned out, he had the flu. Conversations were ‘nervous’. I advised people not to fear and instead focus on building their immune systems.  As someone who spent years in the naturopathic world, I talked about what I talk about all the time! There was no hint that the lockdowns that would be happening just a few weeks later.

I was worried about finding the right chair on the sun deck. Meanwhile, we were at the precipice of the unraveling of the American way of life.  It was at this time that the “conspiracy theories” began to download onto laptops, phones, and social media accounts. People trusted the experts explicitly. They pulled up their masks, stayed home, and became glued to incessant talk of imminent death. Network and cable news shows had “covid death meters” constantly running the latest metrics across their screens. It was insane.  I had never, in my lifetime, seen anything like it.

It took almost a year to learn of someone I personally knew who had COVID.  It actually turned out to be a wonderful time to travel. Planes were empty. There was no traffic. Tickets were super cheap.  Until August of 2020, travel was a cinch. While COVID was certainly real, as we sat there in the “height” of the pandemic I found it strange that, as I maintained a “normal” life, the virus was actually quite hard to find.  I tried to reconcile what I was hearing with what I was experiencing. Despite the news of hospitals at capacity, many doctors were being laid off. Ships were converted to hospitals to help with supposed overloading. It turned out those ships went unused.  A first responder friend was getting daily “covid updates” from her country – including ventilator counts, and there were always more ventilators in use for non-COVID conditions than for COVID. But that detail never made it to the evening news.

As January 2021 came, and people began to get vaccinated. It seemed that everyone was getting sick.  As “theories” began to emerge to account for the difference between narratives and observations, governments, big tech, and multinational corporations began to limit information and communications that that questioned the “official” narrative. In true authoritarian style, they fact checked anything that didn’t support this narrative. Even humor and parody were not spared.

But as it turned out, the fact checkers were just ordinary Americans with no better information or experience than the average Joe. One of these fact checkers had a bio that allegedly included experience as a stripper. Perhaps that qualified as a fact checking medical profession in 2021. In any event, all the fact checkers seemed to be entirely in sync, dutifully touting government rhetoric with no hint of due diligence to be found. Surely, if they agreed with each other, that must mean that they were correct, right? This is where we are in post-COVID America. Fearful and propagandized, with a lack of reliable information or trust in our most important institutions. And in the most information-accessible time in world history.

Lessons of History

For the first time in my life, I can understand Nazi Germany.  As a child – and even an adult – I could not grasp the idea of people willingly getting on a train and heading to a concentration camp.  Yet when done in the name of “safety”, it makes perfect sense.  While the Nazis used this tactic to move the Jews along, they did the same with the German people. The cast Jewish citizens as contagious, disease-carrying vermin.  Moving the Jews to other places meant a safe place for the rest of compliant society. Who doesn’t want safety, right?

If you want to move a society in a particular direction, give them fear and tell them to trust your solution.  They will do anything to feel safe, cozy, and stay in complete ignorance.  As all of society sheltered-in-place, masked-up, missed critical learning, and was forced to vaccinate, we plunged into a psychological abyss where people couldn’t distinguish between truth and propaganda. Mounting confusion led us to believe we held no rights. We needed to deny our sovereignty, and endure the discomfort for the “safety” of others. We were told that the sacrifice of our personal liberties was for a greater good.

Overview of Results

We saw how this played out. Authorities pitted neighbor against neighbor and mother against daughter… to keep us safe. Never mind the mitigating factors, pre-existing conditions, or unintended consequences. The safety afforded society by keeping you masked and vaccinated was so important, none of those other things mattered. And what were the results? A few deaths from lack of oxygen, with many of those likely due to problematic hospital protocols or a lack of early treatment. A new phenomenon of mask acne. Significant learning delays across the educational spectrum. Psychological programming that still has some people believing that masks can magically protect them. Yes, it would take magic for a mask to prevent a virus.

If you did get the clot shot, you are probably torn between feeling protected from Covid (until you got covid… and possibly got covid again…and again), and wondering why people seem to be dropping like flies from any number of maladies.  If you are susceptible to the propaganda machine, you may now believe the reports that: 1) gardening can lead to cardiac arrest, 2) there is some other rational reason for the vastly higher rate of athlete deaths in the past year than the past 60 years, and 3) it is normal for 12 year olds to have heart attacks and strokes. If we are keeping score, conspiracy theorists – 10, mainstream media and fact-checkers – 0.

‘Education’ Exposed

Beyond the lessons of the unprotective masking and death shots, it also became clear that the American education system had been transformed with a progressive liberal agenda, much to the dismay of middle America. Evidently the agenda had been hidden behind a wall of misguided trust. Parents had been sending their kids off to school believing they were learning English, history, science, and arithmetic. But when those students began to be taught at home, this misguided trust was discovered. The agendas, previously unknown to parents, were now plain to see. It turned out that most schools were in fact teaching much more than “the basics”. The lessons were all about equity and social justice – not traditional education. This discovery spawned a nationwide debate about the role of our schools. The result was a full court press by parents at school board meetings. It’s worth noting that equal opportunity (far different than “equity”) is in fact best created by a stellar education!

As the quality of our education has plummeted, teachers unions and local governments have shown that they are more concerned with eroding years of progress leading to equality and opportunity in women’ sports. The post-truth identity agenda compromised safety and privacy in womens’ bathrooms and locker rooms. They want to ensure that Todd who now identifies as Tina has the right to share that bathroom and take that spot on the team – while our daughters are made to feel guilty to even raise questions about the matter. Where has critical thinking gone? Is that education or a propaganda machine designed to hold back the success of any child who questions the system and walks through the door of common sense?

Conclusion

So these past three years have led us to a crossroads.  We have come through lockdowns, unfounded mandates, and forced injections. We have seen the indoctrination of a generation of kids that now discusses 57 genders and allows a “they/them” to use their daughters’ restroom. We have seen our daughters lose their spot on the team without so much as a question. We need to stop complying. Want a successful child? It is time to find the homeschooling crowd; that would be my first suggestion. Find a school that doesn’t accept government funding. But the real end game? If the government advises and promotes one direction, run the other way. Question everything. And if you are being led by fear, you are probably running in the wrong direction. I’ve got the past three years, and my winning record of conspiracy theories to prove it.
