The Lehigh County Board of Elections will convene a meeting today at 3:00 PM in the Public Hearing Room, Government Center, 17 South 7th Street, Allentown, for the purpose of First Certification of the 2022 General Election Results within Lehigh County and for general purposes. During this First Certification meeting, resident Christi Delp will present 2 issues she observed during the November 8th General Election drop box retrieval of ballots and to recommend viable solutions to improve transparency and voter integrity.
One major issue was the total lack of surveillance in the general vicinity of back of the drop box. Although surveillance cameras did capture a 1’-2’ area directly behind the drop box, not a single camera view included the area from beyond 2’ from the drop box to a customer service desk located approximately 6’ from the drop box. This area was the only space in the entire room that was not under surveillance, which makes that space open to many vulnerabilities.
Another concern was with the drop box Seals. Breaking the seal is an integral part of the security procedure of retrieving the ballots from the Drop Box, transferring the ballot to a secure election suitcase, and transporting the ballots to the election headquarters located in another area of the building. On 11/3 the security seal was not attached properly and on 11/8 the seal was not dated. Although this seems minor, it is an important step in drop box security.
Mrs. Delp will recommend to the board to integrate a scanner/printer into the drop box. Mail-In/Absentee Ballots already have a bar code printed on the outer envelope. The scanner will tabulate the number of ballots received, and print a receipt for each voter.
Another area of concern that voters should be aware is the vulnerability of the Mail-in/Absentee Ballots. These ballots are handled by many different postal workers with no accountability required by the Lehigh County Board of Elections. There is no documentation required when the ballot envelopes are received with in-coming mail, nor when the ballots are delivered to the Lehigh County Government Center. The number of Mail-In/Absentee votes cast are increasing at a very rapid rate, particularly now that requests can be made with No Excuse.
Most importantly, in light of the alleged voter fraud by the Delaware County Election Board, voters will be interested in learning what proof the Lehigh County Board of Elections can offer that no official ballots were mailed to any unverified voter, no voter registration records were deleted after Election Day, and that there were no issues with the chain of custody on Election Day regarding the physical ballots/V-drives.
Lehigh County residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions of the board.
